Services

Services are capabilities that support data infrastructures, from identifiers for individual people, through to ontologies to support metadata, through to facilities and infrastructure available to the marine science community such as High Performance Computing (HPC) clusters.

Individual identifiers

• ORCiD (Open Researcher and Contributor ID) provides researchers and contributors with a persistent identifier for individuals
• OceanExpert is a directory of marine and freshwater professionals provided by IODE

Ontologies and taxonomies:

• NERC Vocabulary Server (NVS) provided by BODC, part of NOC, on behalf of NERC
• World Register of Marine Species (WORMS) which aims to provide an authoritative and comprehensive list of names of marine organisms, hosted by the Flanders Marine Institute

High-Performance Computing (HPC) facilities:

• ARCHER2 is the “UK National Supercomputing Service” operated by EPCC, part of the University of Edinburgh, for UKRI
• JASMIN is the “UK’s data analysis facility for environmental science”operated by STFC on behalf of NERC
